The Septuagint - the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible - was an influential translation for Jews and Christians in ancient times. When the authors of the New Testament quoted the Old Testament, they mostly used the Septuagint translation (abbreviated to LXX). The vocabulary and ideas of the LXX therefore had a considerable influence on the development of New Testament theology. Although the LXX and the New Testament were both written in Koiné Greek, much of their vocabulary and many grammatical forms differ.
