Since its publication in 1935, Alfred Rahlfs' edition of the Septuagint has been the fundamental text for Septuagint research around the world and an indispensable tool for theological and philological studies. The 2nd edition, revised and updated by Robert Hanhart was published in 2006. Robert Hanhart, head of the Göttingen Septuagint Project from 1961 to 1993, has revised and updated the Rahlfs edition in line with the advances in textual research; he has above all corrected the critical apparatus and supplemted more than a thousand additions, but has also carefully reviewed the Greek text. The resulting – favorably priced – "Editio altera" (second edition) is now the new manual Septuagint reference edition in one single volume. For students and for academic work, the following equation applies: the Septuagint = the Rahlfs/Hanhart edition.
